The highly anticipated Nollywood action drama “Freedom Way” is scheduled to hit cinemas across Nigeria on July 18, according to its producers.

Blessing Uzzi, the writer and producer of the film, shared the news in a recent post on her Instagram page. Directed by Afolabi Olalekan, “Freedom Way” features a star-studded cast including Debo Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, and Femi Jacobs. Their performances helped the film clinch the Best Film and Best Writing awards at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

The ensemble also includes Mike Afolarin, Bimbo Akintola, and Teniola Aladese, among others, all of whom contribute to what has been described as a compelling narrative.

The plot of “Freedom Way” explores key issues affecting Nigerians, including corruption, police brutality, political oppression, and economic insecurity. The story follows nine strangers facing personal struggles as they navigate the impact of harsh government policies, forcing them into moral dilemmas for survival.

The film had its global premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and later received the Special Jury Award at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF). It has also screened at the New York African Film Festival and the Red Sea International Film Festival, earning acclaim and establishing itself as one of the standout African films of the year.

After captivating audiences on the international stage, “Freedom Way” is now set for its long-awaited home release in Nigerian cinemas on July 18.
