The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering deeper collaboration with the Republic of China, with an emphasis on the power of ideas, cultural understanding, and shared narratives that shape global geopolitics.

This was reiterated today at a seminar held in Abuja on the Promotion and Dissemination of Contemporary World Nigeria Magazine.

Speaking at the event, Director General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, described the magazine as a vital tool in strengthening Nigeria-China relations. He noted that the publication, launched in November 2022, stands as both a mirror and a bridge, reflecting evolving global perspectives from African and Chinese contexts, while also connecting people through shared values and development goals.

“Our partnership with Contemporary World China is a strategic step toward deeper cooperation. The magazine allows us to better understand China’s global engagement and internal development, especially in areas like poverty alleviation, infrastructure, and diplomacy,” Dr. Ochogwu said.

He further explained that the Institute is working to ensure the publication is widely accessible, targeting universities, libraries, think tanks, academic institutions, media houses, and policy organisations across the country.

Representing the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Yu Dunhai, Dr. Wang Jun highlighted the magazine as a product of ongoing academic and cultural exchange between China and Nigeria. He noted that such collaborations enhance mutual understanding and contribute to the growth of bilateral relations.

“The Contemporary World Nigeria Magazine is a meaningful channel for cultural dialogue and mutual learning, and will help spark innovation in our growing partnership,” Dr. Wang said.

The seminar brought together key stakeholders from government, academia, the media, and diplomatic missions, reinforcing the role of shared storytelling in deepening ties between Africa and China.
