Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has announced a significant investment in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program in the state. During the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch B Stream I corps members at the NYSC orientation camp in Paiko, Niger State, Governor Bago revealed that the state government will allocate N5 billion towards the construction of a permanent orientation camp for the NYSC.

In addition to this, he announced a “bonus” of N200,000 for each of the 1,600 corps members posted to the state, totaling N320 million. The governor stated, “All corps members serving in Niger State today are entitled to a N200,000 bonus from Niger farms. “So, each of you has N200,000; I understand you’re about 1,600. So we are going to credit your account with N200,000. This is to give you comfort to stay in Niger State.”

Furthermore, Governor Bago promised automatic employment to corps members in the medical field upon completion of their service. He also encouraged the corps members to participate in the state’s agricultural revolution, promising support through Niger Foods Limited for those interested in farming.

The Chief Judge of Niger State, Justice Halima AbdulMalik, represented by Justice Mariya Ismail, administered the oath of allegiance to the corps members. A total of 1,301 corps members were posted to the state under the 2024 NYSC batch B Stream I Orientation Course. The governor’s gesture is seen as a move to improve the lives of corps members serving in the state and to encourage them to contribute to the state’s development.
