Senator Ned Nwoko was recently honoured in Abuja as a Cultural Ambassador by the National Commission for Museums and Monuments.

The award was given in recognition of his dedication to preserving Nigeria’s cultural identity and promoting national unity through cultural diplomacy.

The senator, who represents Delta North, spoke at the event and described culture as the soul of every nation. He expressed his gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to heritage preservation.

“I am deeply honoured to be named Cultural Ambassador. As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, I’ve worked tirelessly to secure the return of looted Nigerian artifacts from foreign museums,” he said.

Nwoko highlighted Mount Ned in Delta State as one of his major contributions. The site now serves as a cultural and historical centre showcasing Nigerian art, history, and tourism potential. He noted that his advocacy, both at Mount Ned and in the Senate, is aimed at reviving pride in Nigeria’s heritage and boosting the creative industry.

“Culture is not a relic. It is a living tool that helps us build the future,” he added.

The NCMM praised Nwoko as a visionary whose efforts continue to inspire a deeper appreciation for the nation’s rich heritage and cultural assets.

In a separate meeting, Senator Nwoko received a delegation from the African Diasporan Union. The group presented a bill seeking Nigerian citizenship for Afro-descendants who have traced their ancestry back to Nigeria.

Nwoko assured the delegation of his support. He emphasised the need to align the proposal with Nigeria’s legal framework.

He also mentioned a separate bill he has presented that would allow Nigerians in the diaspora to vote in future elections. That bill is currently under deliberation in the Senate.
