On Sunday, the National Troupe of Nigeria (NTN) announced plans to stage a performance featuring an African traditional musical instrument orchestra.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Kaltume Bulama-Gana, artistic director of NTN, revealed that the project will involve artists from various African countries, each bringing their local musical instruments to create a unique orchestra. Bulama-Gana emphasized that this initiative aims to highlight and preserve many indigenous African instruments that are at risk of disappearing, while also fostering cultural collaboration and integration across borders.
“As an art enthusiast, I am excited to see the outcome. This is our first attempt at such a project, and I am confident it will be an extraordinary experience,” she said.
Bulama-Gana also encouraged Nigerians to embrace and celebrate their culture as a vital part of their identity. She expressed her commitment to increasing NTN’s visibility by staging performances that promote Nigerian culture. Regarding the current state of the NTN office, she mentioned plans to renovate it and build hostels for artists.
“The Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy is aware of the office’s condition, and we are working on logistics to establish suitable facilities for artists and efficient office operations. We are seeking support from partners and art enthusiasts to create a fitting venue for showcasing Nigerian culture,” she added.
