The National Metallurgical Training Institute, Onitsha, an institute under the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, has broken new grounds. The monotechnic has installed new machines that detects faults and other mechanical problems in modern car technologies. Some of the machines include: Break and Suspension test machine; gas analyser; injector testing machine and lamp adjustment machine.

The machines, which were donated to the institute by the National Automotive Council of Nigeria, are to cushion the effect of the successes the institute has recorded over the last three decades.

Some of the latest fault-detecting machines had already been distributed to other institutes across the six geo-political zones.

Those who are targeted to benefit from the new technology are artisans such as mechanics, welders and fabricators who would be trained to man and operate the machines. Other beneficiaries are car owners, professional drivers and other artisans.

The new technology, which has already been installed at the mechatronics department of the institute, has the capacity of detecting all faults in the vehicle through an inbuilt analyser which would be displayed on the screen of the machines.

Leading journalists round the workshop, the Director, National Metallurgical Training Institute, Onitsha, Joseph Ajamolaya disclosed that the set of technology would ease some of the problems encountered by motorists. He urged the public to take advantage of the opportunity to service their cars with ease.

Ajamolaya, an engineer, said youth’s empowerment was a priority that must be tackled. He enjoined youths and artisans to participate actively in the latest technology, noting that the institute would continue to encourage skill acquisition for industrial growth of the country.

Meanwhile the institute has upgraded its welding facilities to enable it carry out special welding activities. Modern tools have recently been acquired to perform modern welding technology activities for technicians and technologists.

It has also expanded its foundry operations by upgrading its forging and foundry equipment.
