The National Council for Arts and Culture has announced that the 2025 edition of the National Festival for Arts and Culture (NAFEST) will take place in Enugu State from November 22 to 29.
With the theme Connected Culture, NAFEST 2025 aims to bring together all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory for a week-long celebration of Nigeria’s rich and diverse heritage.
The festival will feature both competitive and non-competitive events, offering a platform for states to showcase creativity, collaborate, and connect through cultural expression.
In a press statement signed by Dr. Dennis Olofu, Head of Media at NCAC, the council confirmed that Director General Obi Asika recently led a team of senior directors to meet with Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and members of his cabinet to finalise preparations for the event.
Asika, who described Enugu as home, commended the governor for his commitment to transforming the state. He highlighted the city’s readiness to host over 5,000 participants and visitors, while also noting key tourist attractions such as the Nsugbe pyramid site, the zipline at Ngwo Pine Forest, the water park at Akwuke, and the canopy walkway at Ovu Lake Golf Resort.
“I know it’s going to be an incredible event,” said Asika. “Enugu is not just hosting the nation, it is inviting the world to experience its beauty, culture, and hospitality.”
Governor Peter Mbah expressed the state’s enthusiasm for hosting the cultural showcase. He reaffirmed Enugu’s readiness and pointed out that the festival aligns with his administration’s plans to attract three million visitors annually through investments in both tourism infrastructure and cultural assets.
“Enugu Air launches this month, and we have over 300 hotels ready to receive guests,” he said. “We are investing in our heritage sites and are excited to welcome Nigeria to experience our connected culture live in Enugu.”
Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, also applauded the choice of Enugu as host city, expressing her excitement to be part of the festival once again.
“I was honoured to light the Christmas lights in Enugu last year. The governor has a clear vision and is delivering. I look forward to what will be a remarkable NAFEST,” she said.
Often referred to as Nigeria and Africa’s Cultural Olympics, NAFEST 2025 will feature events such as the Swag Show, Dance Off Naija, Sing Off Naija, Jollof Wars, the Naija Home Makeover, and the NAFEST Colloquium. Children’s cultural contests, language competitions, and traditional sports like Dambe boxing, wrestling, and Ayo will also take centre stage.
Venues across Enugu, including Opara Square and the International Conference Centre, will host various segments of the festival. Opara Square will be the site for the grand opening and closing ceremonies, which will feature performances by top artists.
Additional highlights include art exhibitions, film screenings, creative workshops, and talent development programs such as CLAP and ICE by the NCAC.
NAFEST 2025 is set to be more than just a cultural event; it will be a rallying point for national unity, creativity, and pride in Nigeria’s cultural diversity.
