Mass Literacy Commission Donates Two Motocycles To Anambra State Agency

As part of its effort geared towards enhancing optimal performance, the National Commission for Mass Literacy Abuja, has donated two brand new motorcycles to the Anambra State Agency for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non Formal Education (AANFA).

The Anambra State Commissioner for Basis Education, Professor Kate Omenugha presented the motorcycles to Unit Heads of two benefiting Local Government Areas at a training organized by the Anambra State Agency for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non formal Education, AANFE for Unit Heads at the ASUBEB premises in Awka.

At the event, Prof. Omenugha stressed on the need for more awareness on the importance of adult education, while expressing her gratitude to Governor Willie Obiano for equipping the agency and making adult education free in Anambra State.

Furthermore, she lauded the Executive Secretary of the Agency Mr. Donatus Nwosu for his efforts, commitment and impact of the agency in achieving literacy for all in Anambra State and urged both the Unit Heads, facilitators and the learners to always abide by all the COVID-19 protocols.

On his part, Mr. Donatus Nwosu, the Executive Secretary of the Agency stated that the Agency has through the massive support of Governor Obiano, put measures in place to revive the Adult and Non formal Education sub sector. This has aided the Agencyā€™s advocacy, mobilization and sensitization of the one hundred and eighty-one Communities of the State. In addition, he noted that the Governor has provided sign posts for easy identification of two hundred and eighty-six adult education centers across the State.

Speaking on illiteracy, he stressed that ā€œearly marriage, get rich quick syndrome and drop out of schoolā€ are militating against achieving literacy for all; hence, he called on Ndi Anambra to embrace the free adult education in the State. He also thanked Governor Obiano for providing them with an utility vehicle for easy monitoring of the centers.

The aim of the celebration according to Mr. Onyeka Anyeji, the the Head of Administration Anambra State Agency for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non formal Education, who also spoke at the event, was to inculcate in the Unit Heads, the rules they need to observe during learnings in this era of COVID-19. He also commended Governor Obiano, Professor Omenugha and Mr. Nwosu for all their efforts in making Anambra State Agency for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non Formal Education achieve greater heights.
