Manager of Lagos Building Control Agency Suspended by Governor Sanwo-Olu

The governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed the suspension of the General manager of Lagos State Building Control Agency, Mr. Gbolohan Oki following the 21-storey building which collapsed in Ikoyi that claimed over 34 lives.

In a statement signed by the commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso, the governor, described the action taken as the first step into the investigation of the building’s collapse.  “It will independently investigate the remote and immediate causes of the incident and make recommendations on how to prevent future occurrences. The investigation is not part of an internal probe already being conducted by the government.”

Rescue operators were able to rescue nine people alive, and so far, 37 dead bodies have been recovered from the rubble.
