Following the death of Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Major-General Farouk Yahaya as the new chief of army staff.
Yahaya will with immediate effect replace the deceased Attahiru Ibrahim who died along with ten other military personnel in an air crash while on an official trip to Kaduna State. His appointment comes six days after his predecessor.
This was also confirmed on the verified twitter handle of the Nigerian Army Headquarters “”The Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff.”

Prior to his appointment, Major-General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the theatre commander of a military counter-terrorism unit in the North East.
