Maiden Anambra Football Super 8 Tournament : GP World FA Nnewi Wins

Konti FC Umunachi lost against GP World FA Nnewi in the maiden edition of “My Anambra Football Super 8 Tournament”. The finals were played at Neros Stadium Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area.

“My Anambra Football Super 8 Tournament” was mainly sponsored by Aspire Football Club, Adazi-Ani in collaboration with GUO Group, Spine Communications and many others.

The tournament, an  initiative of Dr. Emeka Okeke  through his football Club, Aspire Football Club Adazi-Ani, targets at harnessing young talents in football and driving his vision of making the state fulfil his “Next ten” movement.

At the initial stage, twenty seven teams participated during zonal elimination at which eight teams emerged as finalists.

GP World held the first position after beating  Konti FC of Umunanchi in a penalty shootout after a one-one draw at full time,  while the Umunnachi based club  settled for the second position and  Meacon Football Club took the third place in the Tournament.

Giving their assessment of the tournament, the member Technical and Developmental Committee of Confederation of Africa Football, CAF, Alhaji Yusuf Ahmed and the Independent Chairman, Nigeria Nationwide League, NLO, said the initiative is one of the best grassroots tournaments  that promote youths development and assured that players have been selected for upgrade into the national under 17 and 20 teams  in the coming years.

Chief Johnbosco Onunkwo and Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka including some other sports lovers, said the event shows unity in football where talents are harnessed and extolled the organizers for their thoughtfulness, asking parents and guardians to encourage  their children and wards as football is a serious profession.

In their appreciation message to the sponsors of the tournament, the Captain of GP world, Somtochukwu Ukofor said that the initiative is commendable and praised the support football activities have received  in recent times while the captain of Konti Football Club Chidiebele Adinuba suggested more trainings for the officiating crew.

The Chairman, GUO group of companies, Sir Godwin Okeke and his wife, Patricia, in their congratulatory message, acknowledged the successes of the youth empowerment programme of Dr. Emeka Okeke and suggested  inclusion of  the female players  for all round development of youths.

Dignitaries  who attended the finals of the Tournament include the Member Representing Anaocha Two in Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Ejike Okechukwu, Transition Committee Chairman of Aguata Council Area, Mr. Eche Ezeibe, the management and players of Aspire FC Adazi-Ani among other sportsmen and women who  were all out to cheer up the participating teams.

At the club official page “Aspire FC Adazi-Ani” signed by the Media Director of the club, Mr Emeka Okoye, Congratulated the Maiden Champions of My Anambra football Super eight Tournament for their new elevation , praying for more achievements to come.

Correspondent Chibuzor Obidike reported that the tournament came to a climax when top musical artists including  Umuobiligbo, Onye Eze of One one billion, Mr. Real among others put in a world class display to entertain and wind up the maiden edition of my Anambra Football Super eight Tournament.
