A member of the National Assembly representing Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State, Comrade Chinedu Ogah, has called on Nigerians to embrace their rich cultural heritage as a means of promoting peace and unity across the country.
Speaking at the annual Aja-Ereke cultural festival in Amagu, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Ogah emphasized that Nigerians would command greater respect internationally by rediscovering and incorporating their cultural traditions.
“I urge people to continue supporting Governor Francis Nwifuru and President Bola Tinubu as they have created conducive atmospheres for our culture to thrive,” Ogah stated during the event.
The lawmaker described the Aja-Ereke festival as an annual gathering that brings community members together in respect. He noted that 25 villages comprising the community participated in the week-long activities, with many residents returning from abroad to celebrate.
Ogah also used the occasion to encourage political leaders to maintain consistent connections with their constituents. “I advise leaders to be attached to their people and always dwell in their midst, not just when elections approach,” he said.
The legislator pledged to work with stakeholders to sustain the festival, citing its role in fostering community cohesion. “I will do all within my powers to sustain the festival due to the peace and unity it brings to the community,” he promised.
Governor Francis Nwifuru, represented by State House of Assembly Speaker Chief Moses Odunwa, commended Ogah for elevating the cultural festival and bringing attention to the community. He suggested that the enthusiasm demonstrated by Ogah and other stakeholders should serve as a model for others.
The colourful event attracted numerous dignitaries from within and outside the state and featured various cultural performances.
