The Lagos State House of Assembly voted unanimously on Thursday to dismiss Wale Mogaji as the head of the State House of Assembly Commission (LAHASCOM).

Members of the House voted in favor of firing Mr. Mogaji by voice vote at the plenary session.

Folashade Latona was chosen by the parliamentarians to serve as the new Secretary of the Commission.

Esther Lambo, who recently retired, is replaced by Mrs. Latona.

The House promoted three other senior staff members to the position of Deputy Clerks while also confirming Olalekan Onafeko as the substantive Clerk of the House.

Earlier in the session, the House voiced its concerns regarding the recent boat accident on June 8 that resulted in the deaths of roughly 15 persons as well as the recent flooding that was observed in various areas of the state.

The lawmakers added that Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor, needed to work on finding a solution to the flooding issues.

In the same breath, Abayomi Kinyomi, the late former speaker of the House, passed away at the age of 82 on Tuesday after a brief illness.

Members of the Assembly, led by the Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, visited her family yesterday to offer their condolences.

Chief Oluyinka Abeni, the deceased husband’s wife, described her husband’s final moments and stated that days prior to his dying, he was continually checking the time and expressing a desire to return home.
