The Korean Cultural Centre in Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to building stronger cultural relations with the country through the gift of music, film, and shared experiences. This was highlighted during the 13th Korean Film Festival, which took place over the weekend in Abuja.

The three-day event, which opened on Thursday, brought Korean cinema to Nigerian audiences with movies such as Untouchable Lawmen, Sunset in My Hometown, and We Are Brothers. The films offered not just entertainment but also a glimpse into Korean life and culture.

Ms Yunjin Lee, Cultural Event Manager at the Centre, explained that the essence of the festival was to deepen cultural ties between Nigeria and Korea through engaging and enjoyable entertainment. She noted that films like Sunset in My Hometown allowed Nigerians to see the Korean countryside, its scenery, and how people live. According to her, the movies featured during the festival are not commonly available on mainstream platforms, making the experience even more unique.

Lee added that through such festivals, Nigerians can learn more about Korea, its people, and its thriving movie industry. She also stressed the Centre’s commitment to organising more cultural activities that strengthen the bond between both nations.

As the festival drew to a close, many Nigerians who attended shared their excitement. Ada Idoko, a film enthusiast, described the festival as refreshing and entertaining. She said Untouchable Lawmen highlighted the presence of corruption in power and the need for change in society. She also praised the high quality of Korean film production and called for more festivals of this nature.

Another attendee, Stephen Ayuba, who came with his classmates, expressed appreciation for the lively atmosphere and the effort put in by the Centre. He described the event as fun-filled and applauded KCCN for bringing such entertainment to Nigerians.

The festival also added an extra layer of excitement with a raffle draw that saw many participants go home with gifts, leaving them with lasting memories of the cultural exchange.
