International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day (IWD), which is observed annually on March 8, is gaining recognition as an important worldwide celebration. Given the strides that women have achieved in recent years in terms of empowerment, the day is worth celebrating. IWD acknowledges women’s cultural, economic, political, and social accomplishments. The celebration also aims to advance gender equality. No single institution—for example, a corporation, nongovernmental organization (NGO), charity, women’s network, or academic institution—is entirely responsible for IWD. IWD is a collective call for gender equality and an opportunity for reflection and advocacy, and is a call to action for bringing about gender parity.
