The indices advocacy sensitization exercise organized by the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission has commenced in Anambra state with the need for states to increase avenues for internally generated revenue headlining the discussions.

The exercise, which took place at Government House Awka, attracted officials of the Commission from Abuja and all the line ministries in Anambra State.

Declaring the exercise open, the Secretary to Anambra State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Office, Dr. Emma Udeh-Akpeh thanked officials of the Commission for the sensitization exercise, which he said is very important to the state.

Anambra State according to Professor Chukwulobelu,  is one of the states that receive the least allocation from the federal account and any effort or action to correct the imbalance will be appreciated. Thus, he urged the participants to take the sensitization seriously.

Conversely, Mr. Philip Ajayi, the Federal Commissioner, Revenue Mobilization, and Fiscal Commission who addressed the participants stated that the Commission shares revenue based on five variables which are population, commodity, land, social factors, and internally generated revenues. He also noted that they are in the state to teach participants how to collate and present data as well as improve their indices for better results.

On his part, Anambra State Accountant General, Mr. Hillary Obigwe, upheld that the exercise is pertinent to ensuring that the state scales up its indices in all ramifications for better results.

In a technical session, the Technical Director of the Commission, Mr. Paul-Andy Okolosi, who trained participants on how to generate, collate and present data, made it clear that Anambra State has the potential to generate internal revenues that can sustain it.

Established by the law, the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission among other things seek to monitor the accruable and disbursement of revenue from the federation account.

The Commission equally reviews from time to time, the revenue allocation formula to ensure conformity with changing realities.
