The Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has condemned the gruesome murder of a Lagos-basedĀ  female Lawyer, Bolanle Raheem by an officer of the Ajiwe Police Station, Ajah, Lagos.

In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Monday, the IGP described the incident as unfortunate and sad, and Ā has ordered a speedy investigation and prosecution of the officers responsible for the ugly and unprofessional act, which according to him, Ā doesn’t portray the Nigeria Police Standard Operating Procedure and core values.

“In the same vein, the IGP commiserates with the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased as he prays for the repose of her soul. He further assures the general public of justice in the case while he warns officers and men of the Force to be professional and people-oriented in the discharge of their duties and operate within the ambit of the law, as the Force’s leadership will not condone any inappropriate or unprofessional acts,” the statement reads in part.

Bolanle was shot and killed while returning from a Christmas Day church service with her family on Sunday by a trigger-happy policeman attached to Ajiwe Police Station, Ajah Lagos.

It was gathered that Ā after killing her,Ā  the policeman fled the scene with his colleagues before another set of policemen later came and took her remains to a mortuary in the Yaba area of the state and vanished.Ā

Reacting to the incident, the spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident but described it as ā€œunfortunate and avoidableā€, assuring the public that justice will prevail.

In his words, ā€œThe Lagos State Police Command condoles with the family, friends and colleagues of Barrister Bolanle Raheem. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, has been in touch with the family and the Nigerian Bar Association since yesterday and has given firm assurances that justice will definitely prevail.ā€

He added that the ASP that shot the lawyer and two others with him have since been taken into custody and Ā will be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti for further investigation.

Mourning the death of the lawyer via her social media account, Nollywood actress and fashion designer Toyin Lawani reveals Bolanle was pregnant.Ā

She wrote, ” Just like that my bolanle is gone. If you know her you will know how hardworking ceo @crostonhomes is. She and her hubby work tirelessly, Very patient and caring. I canā€™t even imagine what her child is going through right now , She was shot in front of her husband, child and her sisters kids. To top it sheā€™s pregnant, after waiting for 8years. The same @nigeriapoliceforce thatā€™s meant to be protecting us are killing us. Our families might be their next target. Pls tag the necessary forces , cause as usual they will arrest them and release them later and put them back in the force , he needs to pay for his crimes , just like that a life cut short , do you know how many plans we had for her projects for the new year. You just killled her just like that. A husband just lost his wife. A child just lost her mom. Not to talk of her unborn child. This is extremely sad honestly I canā€™t get over it. @jidesanwooluĀ @seyitinubuĀ @femiFalanaĀ @nigeriapoliceforce do something to this ajiwe police officers asap. They are causing serious havoc.”

INLAND TOWN recalls that on December 7, 2022 a policeman attached to the same Ajiwe Police station, Ajah also shot and killed one Gafaru Buraimoh .Ā
