In view of his 65th birthday which comes up on Saturday, August 8, Governor Willie Obiano has called on well wishers who seek to place adverts in his honour to rather donate the money to the foundation which caters for people with mental health issues at a special home in Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area.

According to a statement signed by Mr. C. Don Adinuba, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Governor Willie Obiano will not celebrate the birthday rather he will mark the event as this has been the tradition since he took up the mantle of leadership in November 2013.

Furthermore, rather than celebrating largely, Governor Obiano and his immediate family will mark the event with prayers and a private mass to thank God for his abundant blessings, including his eventful life and robust health and will also use the opportunity to meditate on his relationship with his creator.

The statement urges Individuals, groups and organizations to pray for him and his family and explained that with the coronavirus still ravaging the world, the Governor feels that the times call for sober reflection rather than gaiety.

He noted that Covid-19 has caused deaths in their hundreds of thousands across the globe, inflicted severe health challenges on many more people, caused businesses to collapse and cost millions of people their jobs and billions their most cherished relationships while Ndi Anambra are not free of this phenomenon.

In terms of the donation, he stressed that people with mental health challenges are the most marginalized and discriminated against in the society hence, need a lot of financial and emotional support. To this end, those who want to donate for their upkeep should send the donations to the Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFI).
