FRSC urges Patience as Commuters groan over Awka-Onitsha Gridlock

The Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra State has pleaded with the commuters along Awka-Onitsha expressway for their patience over the traffic congestion being experienced. As a result of the ongoing construction work along the corridor, the new road has been closed causing major traffic on the expressway.

Andrew Kumapayi, FRSC Sector Commander in a statement stated that Eng. Ajani Adeyemo, Controller of Works had demanded the immediate opening of the new road to allow for the easy passage of travellers without spending long hours on the route.

The statement said that, “We wish to sympathize with the motoring public over the traffic gridlock experienced yesterday, 5th January 2021along Awka-Onitsha corridor and the inconveniences this may have caused.

“This is owing to the closure of the new road as a result of the ongoing construction work along the corridor.

“Meanwhile, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Andrew A. Kumapayi, FHNR was in touch with the Federal Controller of Works Engr. Ajani Adeyemo Rasaq who ordered the contractor for the immediate opening of the new road and to hold on work till Sunday 10th January 2021 to allow the travellers for easy movement without spending much time along the route”.

Pending the completion of the road project, Kumapayi assured proper traffic control and the commitment of the FRSC make certain the road is safe and protected.
