The cost of fertilisers has be reduced from N5500 to N5000 per bag on the instructions of President Muhammadu Buhari.
This was disclosed by Atiku Bagudu, the Vice Chairman of the National Food Security Council and Governor of Kebbi State during a State House briefing which held in Abuja recently.
The Vice Chairman replicated that the move was made basically to engender food security in the country. In his words, “You are a living witness to the trend in the country. Before the program, fertilizer was sold for between N8,000 to N12,000 in 2016 and when we started the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative, it was brought down to N5,500 that is the NPK and this has been the trend for three years and now the president decided to reduce it by another N500″.
He also noted that the fertilisers can now be sold at N5000 to the farmers while the factory price would be pegged at N4,500. He mentioned also that it has been ongoing however there has been a problem with urea, one of the key raw materials that is supplied by Indorama out of Port Harcourt.
