Flooding: Anambra Lawmaker Calls On Federal Government To Dredge River Niger

In a bid to stop the incessant flooding bedevilling his constituency, Honourable Patrick  Obalim-Udoba, the member representing Anambra West constituency has appealed to the Federal Government to dredge the River Niger.

He made this appeal following his inspection of the level of havoc wrecked by this year’s flooding in his constituency. He also regretted that the flooding which has become a recurring phenomenon has dealt a big blow to socio-economic development of his constituents.

Hon. Patrick also regretted that his people have been subjected to hardships because of the flood which happens annually and disclosedthat this year’s flood has damaged many crops and property. To this end, he urged both the National Emergency Management Agency and Anambra State Emergency Management Agency to expedite action and come to the aid of his constituents.

Furthermore, he disclosed that Anambra State House of Assembly is coming with Riverine Areas Development Commission Bill to help alleviate the sufferings of the people of riverine communities whenever there is flooding.

On their part, Messrs Ikechukwu Udenze from Mmiata Anam and Sunday Nwachukwu from Umuenwelum Anam lamented that the incessant flooding has caused them fortune, as all their crops were submerged. Thus, they pleaded to both the government and people of goodwill to assist them.
