In a major push to reposition Nigeria’s creative economy, the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy has signed a five-year partnership with Ananse Internet Group to establish a nationwide network of design and innovation hubs.
The partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding and will kick off with the launch of the Ananse Centre for Design in Lagos later this year. The initiative is part of efforts to drive economic diversification, job creation, and youth empowerment through fashion, leather, and digital storytelling.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister Hannatu Musa Musawa described the collaboration as a strategic step that merges creativity, technology, and entrepreneurship. She noted that the initiative reflects the spirit of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“This partnership with Ananse is about investing in our creative talent and giving them the tools to thrive, compete globally and contribute meaningfully to the economy,” Musawa said.
The Ministry will provide policy direction, infrastructure, and funding for selected locations, while Ananse will supply technical expertise, certified training modules, and digital platforms to power the hubs.
The first centre, expected to open in the second half of 2025, will serve as a model for similar hubs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. These centres will focus on training young creatives and supporting MSMEs, particularly youth and women-led enterprises.
Over 5,000 individuals are expected to benefit from the programme, which includes hands-on training in fashion design, leatherwork, business development, and digital commerce. Participants will also be linked to Ananse’s cross-border e-commerce platform, giving them access to international markets.
Both parties plan to collaborate on research to guide policy-making and promote industry growth. A joint committee will be formed to oversee implementation, track impact, and monitor key indicators such as the number of creatives trained, startups launched, jobs created, and industry collaborations.
Government officials say the partnership signals a tangible step toward making Nigeria a leading hub for creative innovation and excellence in Africa.
