Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, has inaugurated the Local Organising Committee for the 2025 All-Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, which is scheduled to take place in Lagos from November 25 to 30.
The event, which will be held under the theme “Unstoppable Africa,” will mark the ninth edition of the prestigious awards celebrating African music and creativity. The inauguration of the inter-agency committee took place on Wednesday at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, members of the committee were drawn from key government bodies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, the Nigerian Film Corporation, and the National Film and Video Censors Board.
Others included the Federal Ministry of Interior, the National Council for Arts and Culture, a representative of AFRIMA and a delegate from the African Union Commission.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Musawa explained that AFRIMA, in partnership with the African Union Commission, had sought the ministry’s support through sponsorship and collaboration to ensure a successful hosting of the awards.
She described AFRIMA as a celebration of the continent’s creative energy and the powerful influence of African music.
“This inauguration marks the start of a remarkable journey that will be both exciting and demanding,” Musawa said, urging the committee members to work towards smooth and effective planning of the event.
Highlighting the long-standing relationship between the ministry, AFRIMA and the AUC, the minister said the collaboration would help strengthen the African music industry through impactful programmes that would shape the cultural landscape of the continent.
