Renowned filmmaker and media executive Femi Odugbemi has unveiled BLACKBox, a new content design, production consultancy, and film and television training hub in Lekki, Lagos.
Odugbemi, known for championing authentic African storytelling, is an award-winning filmmaker, writer, and producer whose works have been featured globally. He is a voting member of both the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and he is the founder and chief executive officer of Zuri24 Media.
Describing BLACKBox as a creative consultancy and training hub, Odugbemi said it is focused on content development in television, film, documentary, and branded storytelling, with a mission to groom the next generation of African storytellers and content creators.
The facility combines consultancy, content development, and professional training in one location, aiming to be a key driver of Nigeria’s creative economy. It offers a mix of artistic mentorship and strategic support to help creators bring their visions to life.
“BLACKBox is envisioned as a dynamic space for nurturing talent, shaping narratives, and supporting creators across the spectrum of storytelling. With state-of-the-art facilities and a flexible design, it can host up to 50 participants for hands-on workshops, group sessions, meetings, and roundtable discussions to foster creativity and collaboration,” Odugbemi said.
He added that the hub will provide project development consultancy for both emerging and established creators, guiding them from concept to screen. It will also offer training intensives, masterclasses, and mentorship programs in areas such as script development, production design, directing, and audience engagement.
Zuri24 Media, the acclaimed production company behind series such as Battleground, Brethren, Covenant, and feature films like Gidi Blues and The Man Died, will now operate from the BLACKBox facility. The arrangement creates an environment where learning, collaboration, and real-world industry experience can take place simultaneously.
