The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has confirmed Asue Ighodalo as the legitimate governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State.
In a ruling on case CS/469/24, Justice James Omotosho determined that Ighodalo was properly nominated during the PDP primaries held on February 22, 2024, in Benin City.
The court rejected the objections raised by his political opponent, Philip Shaibu, a former deputy governor of Edo State.
Ighodalo secured 577 votes, triumphing over Shaibu and ten other contenders in the primary. It remains uncertain whether Shaibu will appeal the court’s decision.
Ighodalo, a distinguished business lawyer based in Lagos and an influential figure in the corporate world, is widely regarded as the leading candidate in the gubernatorial election scheduled for September 2024.
