In Rivers State, there was an explosion at a power transmission station which has caused utmost darkness in some parts of Port Harcourt and its environs.
As disclosed by a source, the explosion took place at the Afam Power Station in the Oyibo Local Government Area of the state.
The source stated that the facility owned by the Transmission Company of Nigeria and the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution was partly shattered by the explosion.
He also added that the cause of the explosion was not immediately identified, but some officials of the electricity firms were seen carrying out repair works.
Mrs Chioma Aninwe, the PHED management in a statement by its acting Manager, Corporate Communications,Ā confirmed the explosion, saying efforts were on to restore power supply to the affected areas.
A part of the statement read: āPlease be informed that the outage being experienced in some parts of Rivers State is as a result of an explosion that shattered the power transformer at the transmission station.
āRepairs are already ongoing and supply will be restored as soon as possible. Areas affected are: Rumuokwuta, some parts of NTA Road, Rumuola Road, Ikwerre Road from Wimpey junction to Rumuigbo junction, some parts of Ada George, GRA phases 1, 2 and 3, Oroworukwo community and Olu Obasanjo Road.
āOthers are some parts of Rumukalagbor, some parts of Rumuibekwe, Rumuola under the bridge, Rumuola link road, and some parts of Stadium Road.ā
The statement pleaded with the members of the public to be patient as the PHED and the TCN were working relentlessly to solve the issue on ground and restore power supply to affected areas.
