THE former chairman of Police Service Commission (PSC), Chief Simon Okeke, has cautioned pro-Biafra agitators to avoid violence, just as he appealed to the Federal Government to establish the South East Development Commission to alleviate the problems of people in the zone.

At a press briefing at his Amichi country home in Nnewi South Local Council of Anambra State yesterday, Okeke, who was an ex-Biafran soldier, cautioned the agitators to stop pressing for sovereignty.

He said, “Our greatness lies in living together with our neighbours rather than living in a small fragmentation. We have tried it before. Let’s live together as one country. The Igbo man needs a much wider space than what we have in the South East or the proposed Biafra because of our great vibrancy and great potentialities. Igbo have invested more than any tribe in Nigeria, and they have investments in the North, West and Niger Delta.”

Meanwhile, the National President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), Dr. Jude Okolo, yesterday called for a truce between the Federal Government and pro-Biafra agitators.

While answering questions from journalists on the issue in Awka, Anambra State, Okolo advised that effort should be made to bring those involved to dialogue and eschew violence.
