Following the notice issued by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency on Friday, flight operations will commence at the renovated Akanu Ibiam International Airport starting from Monday, 7th September,2020.
This was made known by Chris Okoye, the Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum committee on the refurbishment of the airport.
The refurbished runway according to Chris Okoye is the only runway in Nigeria aside the Abuja runway to be built with fiberglass.
Based on the notice issued,flight operations were approved from 7:00am to 7:00pm effective Monday, September 7, 2020.
Giving credence to Chris Okoye, Josephine Abba-Adjara an official of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, assured that commercial flights to the airport will commence effectively on the scheduled date.
It will be recalled that all flight operations in the country were barred in March, owing to the effects of the Corona virus scourge. It only resumed in July after the Federal Government approved for domestic flight to commence.
With the country’s airspace and airports gradually opening, international flights have also resumed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
