Onitsha, Nigeria – August 11, 2024 – The Onitsha Anglican Women Association (OAWA) concluded its impactful annual August Meeting from August 8th to 11th, 2024, centred around “Christian Stewardship.” The event gathered women from across the Diocese of Niger, blending spiritual reflection with leadership and community empowerment.
A standout moment of the four-day event was the participation of UNICEF representatives, who joined forces with OAWA to emphasize the importance of women’s empowerment and community development. Their presence highlighted the critical role OAWA plays in nurturing leadership and spiritual growth among women.
The meeting began on August 8th with a General Meeting at Stephen Church, where attendees discussed Christian stewardship. On August 9th, Immanuel Church hosted a day dedicated to women’s empowerment, offering workshops on leadership, entrepreneurship, health, and education.
The highlight on August 10th was a Presidential Address by Professor Ifeoma Modebe, President of OAWA, who outlined the association’s past successes and future aspirations. Following her address, Advanced First Aider Ndali Modebe conducted a CPR and First Aid training session, equipping participants with essential life-saving skills. The topic of CPR was well received, and Ndali was given a huge round of applause and standing ovations after her session.
The event culminated on August 11th with a Thanksgiving Service at Immanuel Church, where participants expressed gratitude and recommitted to their faith and community service.
Professor Ifeoma Modebe stated, “This year’s August Meeting underscored our commitment to Christian stewardship. The involvement of UNICEF was instrumental, and we are excited to continue our mission of empowering women and strengthening our community.”
