Ekwueme didn’t endorse Nwoye’s defection, says PDP

The Chairman, Anambra State Peoples Democratic Party, Ken Emeakayi, on Wednesday, said former Vice-President Alex Ekwueme did not endorse the defection of the PDP’s governorship candidate in the state, Tony Nwoye, to the All Progressives Congress.

Emeakayi, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, described the claim by Nwoye as name-dropping.

He said, “What the claim simply means is that Ekwueme now has sympathy for the APC. So, if Ekwueme has sympathy for the APC, is it Tony Nwoye and the other defectors that will announce that to Nigerians?

“This is just ‘super name-dropping’ meant to justify an action. Dr. Alex Ekwueme is not a man known for doublespeak. He is a pillar in the PDP and he cannot in any manner work against the interest of the party by encouraging any group to leave the party.

“There is no iota of truth in that claim. Dr. Alex Ekwueme recently chaired a PDP function. And he was happy at that occasion. At best, that claim can be a figment of the imagination of certain people.”

Emeakayi added that Nwoye and those that defected to the APC were never members of the PDP.

He said, “The truth of the matter is that Tony Nwoye and those who purportedly left the PDP for the APC were not members of our party.

“They were expelled from the PDP in August this year for anti-party activities. Their expulsion was made public. So, they can’t come now to claim to be members of our party in November.”
