Dele Bashiru began his football journey with Manchester City, but in 2019, he made the move to Watford after the conclusion of his contract. During his initial two seasons at Vicarage Road, he found it challenging to secure a consistent spot in the starting lineup, leading to a year-long loan spell at Reading. However, last season, the 24-year-old attacking midfielder showcased significant improvement and growth in his performance.

In his 35 appearances last season, Dele Bashiru recorded two goals and two assists, contributing to Watford’s 15th place finish in the English Championship. This solid display of skill and dedication has earned him a reward from the club. Although his previous contract was set to expire in the summer of 2025, recent developments reported by the New York Times indicate that Watford has extended his contract by an additional three years, now keeping him at the club until 2028.

Looking ahead, Dele Bashiru is eager to build on his recent success and aims to have an even more impactful season with Watford as they strive for promotion to the Premier League. Born in England to Nigerian parents, the 24-year-old is eligible to represent both England and Nigeria. Initially, he played for England at the Under-16 level but later switched to play for Nigeria at the Under-20 and Under-23 levels. Despite his international experience, he has yet to feature for Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles.
