The Defense Secretary of the United States of America, Lloyd Austin, has tested positive for Covid-19 and is exhibiting mild symptoms, according to a statement released by the Defense Department on Sunday.
“I have informed my leadership team of my positive test results, as well as the President. My staff has begun contact tracing and testing of all those with whom I have come into contact over the last week.” Austin said.
Lloyd Austin also added that he last met with President Joe Biden on December 21 and tested negative the same day afterwards. “I met briefly – and only – with a few members of my staff. We were properly masked and socially distanced throughout.” He said.

Lloyd Austin said he would remain at home for the next five days. This is in accordance with CDC guidelines which shortened the recommended times from 10 days to 5 days that people should wait after testing positive for the virus. He has also said that he plans to attend all his key meetings virtually and was thankful that his fully vaccinated status rendered his symptoms milder.
