The Abuja police have confirmed that singer Dammy Krane was taken into custody and subjected to intensive questioning by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID). However, recent reports now indicate that the artist, known for his hit song “My Dear,” has been released from detention.
This turn of events follows Dammy Krane’s startling accusations against fellow musician Davido. On Thursday, August 22, Krane publicly alleged that Davido was behind his arrest, claiming that Davido had bribed law enforcement officials to detain him under false pretenses. According to Krane, his arrest was orchestrated as a part of a scheme connected to illegal activities involving Flutterwave and cryptocurrency scams. He further warned that if any harm were to come to him, Davido should be held accountable.
Reports revealed that Krane was detained by the FCID for nearly a week. On Wednesday, August 28, Funmilayo Eguaoje, the FCID spokesperson, provided an update, clarifying that while Krane was not being held in a traditional cell, he was still being questioned by the cybercrime unit. Eguaoje explained, “He is with the section that is investigating the matter and is likely to be released after the interrogation. He is with the cybercrime unit, and they are recording his statement.”
Subsequently, a video was shared by social media activist VeryDarkMan, showing Dammy Krane celebrating his release. In the video, Krane offered an apology to Davido for the allegations he had made and expressed gratitude to the police commissioner in Abuja and VeryDarkMan for their support.
“I wanna say a big thank you to my brother. I know there are a lot of words that ought not to be said. I want to apologize for this Tagbo death allegation. Make you una still remember David is my brother. And we are going to find a major ground to resolve everything,” Krane stated. He also added, “It is still WorldStar movement. Let us spread more music.”
The feud between Dammy Krane and Davido, rooted in past disputes over unpaid songwriting contributions and alleged interference with Krane’s record deal with Sony Music, has escalated significantly in recent times. Davido has criticized Krane, calling him “ungrateful” and asserting that he never received payment for their collaborative efforts and had even provided support when Krane was homeless.
Despite Davido’s statements, Dammy Krane has continued to attack him publicly, accusing him of involvement in the death of his friend Tagbo Umeike, who allegedly died from alcohol poisoning in October 2017. Davido has denied these accusations and threatened to take legal action against Krane for “defamation of character and cyberbullying.”
This ongoing conflict continues to capture public attention, with both artists maintaining their respective stances and preparing for potential legal battles ahead.
