COVID-19: Anambra State Camp Ready For Prospective Corps Members- State Coordinator

As the nationwide lockdown continues to be eased, Mr. Aremu Kehinde, the State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Anambra State has said that the camp is ready to host prospective corps member for their post COVID-19 orientation course.

Mr. Aremu noted that following the announcement for the re-opening of tertiary institutions and NYSC Orientation camps by the Federal Government, the Anambra state camp which is located at Progressive Senior Secondary School, Umunya; is well suited for habitation, in line with the COVID-19 safety protocols set up by the Presidential Taskforce and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

With reference to the safety protocols, Mr. Aremu revealed that the Southeast Director of the NYSC had inspected the camp in the state and certified it as ready to host in-coming corps members. In fact, wash-hand basins and sanitizing bays have been provided while the beds have been separated to ensure two meters social distancing.

In terms of power, water supply and other facilities, the State coordinator assured that they have been enhanced just as the camp have been fumigated and decontaminated to guarantee the safety of the corps members as they undergo their orientation programme.  In addition, care centers have also been created and also, there would be a re-engineering process in which corpers would be made to operate in groups for camp officials to be able to track and monitor their health conditions.

The NYSC state coordinator also stated that corps members help to fill the man power gaps in the education and health sectors of the state. He said serving corps members increased teaching staff in secondary schools as well as complimented the efforts of medical personnel at the hospitals.

As regards the International Day for Suicide Prevention, Mr. Aremu emphasized on the fact that the National Youth Service Corps Scheme is a programme designed to give hope to young Nigerians as well as dissuade them from suicide mentalities.

As a matter of fact, through the NYSC Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP), youths acquire skills and NYSC facilitates interest-free loans to enable them become wealth creators and produce more entrepreneurs.

According to him, no youth who passed through the NYSC scheme would nurse the ambition to commit suicide.
