The Correct Connect Africa Foundation (CCAF) has announced that the 2025 edition of Africa Memorial Day (AMD) will take place on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

With the theme “Historical Consciousness and Human Justice,” the event aims to unite Africans across the continent and the diaspora in a powerful act of remembrance and collective reflection. Organisers say the gathering is more than just a commemoration—it is a call to confront the ongoing legacies of slavery and colonisation while advocating for justice, memory, and liberation for African peoples.

“This is not just an event; it is a sacred duty,” said Fr. Anthony Aleakwe Odior, Executive Guardian and Chief Advocate of CCAF. “Africa Memorial Day is our collective moment to speak the names of our ancestors, awaken our memory, and boldly demand justice through historical truth and cultural dignity.”

The 2025 programme will include a series of solemn and educational activities such as:

The Rite of Africa Memorial Day: A spiritual tribute to honour African ancestors lost to slavery and colonial oppression.

Panel Discussions: Featuring historians, legal experts, cultural leaders, and justice advocates delving into issues of African identity, historical memory, and reparative justice.

Artistic Performances: Showcasing African music, spoken word, drama, and traditional dance that highlight the continent’s resilience and cultural pride.

Cultural Exhibitions: Interactive displays, heritage installations, and art exhibitions designed to educate and inspire attendees.

CCAF expects a diverse audience, including community leaders, young people, academics, human rights advocates, artists, and faith-based organisations, to gather for what it calls a rare and meaningful convergence of healing, education, and solidarity.

For media and partnership inquiries, the foundation has advised contacting Samuel Sombi Dennis, CCAF’s Communications Lead, via [samdee@ccaf.africa](samdee@ccaf.africa) or +234 803 303 9155.

Africa Memorial Day 2025 is poised to be both a solemn reflection on the past and a bold step toward a more just future for African communities worldwide.
