Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano while speaking at the State Command Headquarters, Immigration Service, Awka, stressed the need for e-registration of migrants in the state, as it will increase effective monitoring and control of foreigners in the state. He also said that it will assist security agencies and institutions involved in migration management to monitor and coordinate their actions.
The Secretary to State Government (SSG), Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu represented the Governor at the event where he explained that the plan will aid the state to fish out illegal migrants in the state especially the criminals in among them.
Gov. Obiano summoned landlords/owners of buildings that were accommodating migrants like Hotels, Guest Houses and employers of expatriates, traditional rulers, market/traders associations, President’s General of Town Unions and academic institutions with foreign students to ensure that such migrants comply with provisions of immigration regulations.
According to Mrs Tochukwu Agwai, Controller of Immigration, Anambra State Command, President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated the exercise in Abuja early this year and issued a period of amnesty to all migrants expected to end by January 2020 to allow them participate in the e-Registration.
“A vigorous statistics that will be generated from the exercise will be linked to Interpol data base as part of an international relationship, indorsed by the National Migration Policy, as this is to fight irregular migration and attendant challenges to the security of the nation”, she added.
