After months of competing against some of Nigeria’s finest performers and vocalists who auditioned for the ninth season of Nigerian Idol, Chima Udoye has been crowned the winner at the finale held on Sunday.
The intense finale episode began with the top 10 contestants performing John Legend’s “Glory” on stage. This was followed by performances from previous winners: Progress, the Nigerian Idol Season 7 winner, performed with the Bigi Idol winner, while Victory Gbakara, the Season 8 winner, performed an original song he wrote before his season’s finale. The evening continued with electrifying performances from guest artists Chike, Simi, and the top 3 finalists, culminating in the crowning of Chima as the winner.
Chima Udoye is celebrated for his on-stage charisma and vocal dexterity, consistently leaving judges 9ice, Omawumi, and Ric Hassani in awe. During the finale, Omawumi noted that Chima was in a competition with himself, highlighting his extraordinary talent and potential beyond the show’s limits.
Specializing in jazz and soul music, Chima expressed at the beginning of the season his desire to showcase his vocal prowess and inspire others through the Nigerian Idol platform. After twelve weeks of impressive performances, he achieved his goal and emerged victorious.
Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content & Channels, West Africa, MultiChoice, commended Chima for his win, emphasizing the resilience and dedication that brought him to this achievement.
