From 3 to 27 September, the inaugural Cape Town Photography Festival adds a new dimension to Heritage Month with a rich programme of exhibitions, talks, and workshops. With heritage as its central theme, the festival encompasses a range of initiatives, from rediscovered archives to AI-driven projects, student showcases, and children’s activities.
Among the highlights is Future Heritage, curated by Suok-Won Yoon, featuring the work of Berlin-based artist Boris Eldagsen and South African artist Mohau Modisakeng.
Also on the schedule is a dialogue between Japanese students and their local counterparts curated by Naoya Yoshikawa, as well as District Six: People Lived Here, a moving exhibition by Jansje Wissema. The Sanlam Art Gallery will present an exhibition on loan from the Kilbourn Collection, while Through Kids’ Eyes brings the unique perspectives of children to the fore.
With its blend of archives, innovation, and global contributions, the festival positions Cape Town as a significant hub for photographic storytelling.
