CAF Official Dies Following Riot After Nigeria – Ghana Game

A CAF official, Joseph Kabungo, a Zambian doctor unfortunately lost his life during the riot that took place after the World Cup Qualifier between Nigeria and Ghana.

Dr. Kabungo was the official Confederation of African Football (CAF) doping control officer for the game at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

The Black Stars of Ghana booked a ticket to the Qatar World Cup with a 1-1 draw with the Super Eagles of Nigeria. After the final whistle went, angered Nigerian fans rushed onto the pitch and chaos ensued.

The fans attacked officials and trashed every thing they could get their hands on. According to reports, Kabungo collapsed during the stampede and unfortunately passed away.

There’s no official cause of death yet and there has been no official statement from either CAF or the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

According to African football journalist, Usher Komugisha, the doctor was lost consciousness after being beaten by fans.
