Grammy Award-winning singer Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has launched a football academy with training centers in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt. The academy is designed to teach young players the fundamentals of football while also focusing on education, discipline, and technique to help them excel in life beyond the sport.
Open to players aged 4-15 and 16-21, the program offers training sessions three days a week, each lasting two hours. The academy has established partnerships with top football clubs, including Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, Brighton, Watford, and Scottish clubs Hearts and Hamilton. According to their website, the academy’s vision is to involve parents in sports education, highlighting its importance alongside academics. “We aim to create an environment where kids can learn the fundamentals of football, combined with education, discipline, and technique, to excel in life beyond the sport. We strive to engage parents in sports education, emphasising its importance alongside academic pursuits.”
With two centers in Lagos (Lekki and Surulere), as well as in Abuja and Port Harcourt, the academy is already seeing positive results, having secured four wins, two losses, and a draw in seven friendly matches.
