In Nigeria, Burna Boy has smashed another music record. His new song “Higher” received 2.3 million plays on Spotify Nigeria in its first week of release, surpassing the previous record of 2.1 million streams held by Rema and Shallipopi’s “Benin Boys.”
This is not Burna Boy’s only recent accomplishment. “Higher” also set a Spotify record for the most first-day streams for a solo song by an African artist. Released on June 27, 2024, the song highlights the importance of valuing what truly matters while experiencing success.
Burna Boy filmed the music video for “Higher” in his hometown of Port Harcourt, giving it a unique feel. While there, he also worked on “Project PROTECT,” his charitable endeavor that collaborates with The R.E.A.C.H. to assist Nigerians without access to basic services.
Burna Boy has been establishing numerous records in African music. He has had the top-grossing concert in the United States and the highest-grossing tour in Canada for an African musician.
