To all the bosses who call outside of work hours in Portugal, it is now illegal. The law was recently introduced into the country, which prohibits employers from contacting workers outside of official working hours either by mail, call or text.
The law was passed by the Portuguese parliament last Friday and the next day came into effect. The new policy is part of legislation that regulates working from home. Employees are also allowed to willingly decline to work remotely if they so wish.
According to the new policy, the employer must respect the privacy of the worker including periods of rest and family time and any violation would be regarded as a serious offence and attracts a fine.
