Connie Chiume, the celebrated South African actress known for her role in the blockbuster film “Black Panther,” has passed away at the age of 72. Chiume died on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg.

The announcement of her passing was made by her family through her Instagram handle on Tuesday. They requested privacy as they mourn their significant loss. The family’s statement read, “The Chiume Family regrets to inform you of the passing of the internationally acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume. Connie Chiume, 72, passed on at Garden City Hospital today, August 6, 2024. The family will communicate further details and ask for privacy during this difficult period.”

The news of her death was met with an outpouring of grief. One tribute read, “NO! Rest in peace Mum Connie. You were deeply loved & appreciated. My condolences to South Africa; they have lost a beautiful soul. Sleep well, my friend!”
