Nigerian singer Friday Igweh, popularly known by his stage name, Baba Fryo, has dismissed the idea that African men cheat in relationships, claiming the concept is a Western creation that doesn’t align with African cultural values.
In a recent appearance on *The Honest Bunch* podcast hosted by Daddy Freeze, Husband Material, Cole, and Ezinne, the veteran musician argued that polygamy is an accepted part of African tradition, where men are culturally permitted to marry multiple women.
He emphasised that this allowance does not apply to women, stating that once a man pays a woman’s bride price, he becomes her “lord.”
“African men don’t cheat because African culture doesn’t condemn men cheating; it’s Western men who cheat,” Baba Fryo said.
He also stressed the significance of traditional marriage rites, pointing out that African men go through expensive processes involving both families and communities.
“We don’t marry with flowers. After carrying out all the expensive marriage rites, won’t you see me as a lord over the woman?” he asked.
