In line with the need to address the alarming level of unemployment, the National Directorate of Employment, (NDE) Anambra State has recruited a total of 50 unemployed graduates under its internship programme.

According to Mrs Chika Ufele, the Coordinator of NDE who addressed the beneficiaries at the state headquarters, Amawbia, the programme is part of the 2020 Graduate Attachment Programme (GAP) which is carried out across the 36 states of the Federation and FCT in which a total of 1,850 jobs is targeted to be created nationwide.

The beneficiaries posted to various corporate organizations in Anambra were expected to serve for an initial period of three months of which they are entitled to a monthly stipend of N15, 000.

The Coordinator also stated that the beneficiaries could likely secure permanent jobs at their places of primary assignment or alternatively become self-employed after the programme.

The Special Public Works Department of the NDE on its part is playing a leading role in the programme by simply identifying and exploiting employment opportunities that abound in the public sector. In addition, the department through GAP promotes mass employment strategies through the attachment of qualified graduates to willing employers of labour on tutelage for 3-6 months.

Mrs Ufele while admonishing the beneficiaries to maximize this opportunity thanked the Director-General of NDE, Dr Nasiru Mohammed for graciously approving the implementation of the programmes and facilitating its take off.

On her part, Victoria Nwogbo, one of the beneficiaries of the programme expressed her appreciation to NDE for giving her the opportunity to be productive in life. To this end, she pledged to be committed during the programme.
