The National Chairman of Willie Obiano Support Group, Chief Jude Emecheta has said that both the Anambra Cargo Airport Umueri and International Conference Centre Awka are legacy projects that that will redefine the future of socio-economic life in Anambra State and the South East Region.

Chief Emecheta who made this assertion in Awka noted that the Airport would open the Anambra economic space to the international community. In fact, the airport which is strategically located within the Agricultural, industrial and commercial hub of the state would not only accelerate the economic development of the state but also the South East region and Nigeria as it would serve the trading population, farmers, industrialists, and investors.

Furthermore, he stated that the airport would also bring about the expansion and increase in the capacity of goods and agricultural produce which could be airlifted and landed; consequently removing the cost of the transportation of goods to and from other airports into Anambra.  He added that this would make the goods cheaper for the customers.

As said by Chief Emecheta the Airport would equally attract more foreign investors and also increase the response to Governor Willie Obiano’s Think-Home Philosophy Initiative while the employment value chain would be increased across all sectors.

On his part, Dr. Mike Omenugha, a medical practitioner who also spoke, stated that the Airport would boost the Gross Domestic Product GDP and enhance sustainable development. He added that it would also accelerate the growth and development of the key sectors and further stimulate development in rural communities

Dr. Omenugha noted that Governor Obiano has fulfilled assurances made to the people by scaling up the tempo of good governance, transforming and repositioning key sectors including Agriculture, Education, Health, Security and giving Awka a benefiting capital status.
