Chioma Ifemeludike, the governorship candidate of the African Action Congress in the upcoming November 8, 2025, governorship election in Anambra State, has strongly condemned the killing of businessman Ifesinachi Onyekere.
Onyekere, popularly known as “Fish Magnet,” was reportedly abducted from his home in the Ezinifite community of Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area, during a late-night attack on Saturday. He was later confirmed dead.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Ifemeludike called on the state government and all relevant authorities to launch a swift and transparent investigation into the murder. She stressed that justice must be served and those behind the killing held accountable.
Describing the incident as a painful reflection of the growing insecurity in the state, she said it serves as yet another heartbreaking reminder of how unsafe daily life has become in Anambra communities.
The statement from her campaign team reads, “The African Action Congress and the Chioma4Governor Campaign Team condemn this horrific killing in the strongest terms. We demand accountability and action. Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly known as Fish Magnet, was a young entrepreneur, a social media voice, and a bright spark from Anambra State. On Sunday, he was abducted and murdered in cold blood right here in his state. We are devastated. And we are angry.”
It continued, “Ifesinachi was one of our own—young, full of ideas, committed to his hustle, and representative of the very spirit Anambra claims to celebrate. We are not going to treat this as just another tragic headline. We demand that the Anambra State Government, under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, take immediate and transparent steps to investigate this murder and bring those responsible to justice. This cannot be swept under the carpet.”
Ifemeludike further criticised the state government for failing in its constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property, stating that the current administration had become disconnected from the people.
“This is unacceptable. We cannot continue like this. We cannot mourn one more young person, full of promise, whose life is cut short by violence—and then move on like nothing happened. Ifesinachi’s death must not become just another number.
We demand action. We demand accountability. We demand justice—not just for Fish Magnet, but for every Anambra son and daughter who lives in fear,” the statement concluded.
