Mr. Primus Odili , the Chief of Staff of the Anambra State Government, has revealed that Anambra International Passenger and Cargo Airport will be commissioned in July 2021, as against news on social media, that the airport was commissioned on 30th April.
Setting the records straight, he said what happened on the afore stated day was a test-run of the runway to ascertain whether it was fit enough for aircraft to land and takeoff.
He made this known to journalists in Awka, while he maintained that test-run of facilities were series of routine checks before an airport was commissioned for public use.
Odili restated the importance of the airport as a boost to the Internally-Generated Revenue of the state, more convenient transportation of good for traders as well as a host of other benefits which he said can not be quantified in monetary terms.
He said that the economic value of the airport was too numerous to mention because he believed that Onitsha Main Market acclaimed to be the largest market in West Africa was the final destination for cargoes from Lagos, Rivers, Cross River and some others.
The Chief of Staff emphasized that with the existence of a cargo airport in Anambra state, all the cargoes will come in directly into the state at very reduced cost.
