In a significant event on Thursday , Amalunweze Tony Nwora was officially sworn in as the elected Chairman of Onitsha North Local Government Area (LGA), marking the start of a new era for the region.
Nwora, who ran on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), secured a landslide victory, defeating his closest contender by a large margin.
The swearing-in ceremony, which took place in Awka, was officiated by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, and saw the inauguration of Mayors from all 21 local government areas across the state.
During his inaugural speech, Governor Soludo called on the new Mayors to lead with integrity, transparency, and accountability, stressing the importance of serving the people who entrusted them with their votes.
In his own remarks, Mayor Nwora expressed deep gratitude to the residents of Onitsha North for their trust and support during the September 28 election. He pledged to prioritize the needs of the community in every decision and action throughout his tenure.
Nwora also expressed his intention to follow Governor Soludo’s model of transformative leadership, committing to deliver accountable, people-focused governance. He called on residents to collaborate with his administration, emphasizing the importance of collective effort in driving the growth and development of Onitsha North.
“Onitsha North is no longer just in my mind but now in our hands,” Nwora stated. “Let’s work together to create a livable, enjoyable, and prosperous homeland.”
