Ahead of the Anambra State gubernatorial election set to take place on November 6, 2021, a group of armed men disrupted the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) campaign in Ihiala Local Government area of Anambra State. The gunmen who arrived in the morning on motorbikes began shooting in order to gain access into the Odoata Central School, the venue for the rally. They were engaged in a shootout by security operatives attached to the venue shortly after their arrival.

Confirming the event, the State Commissioner of Police, Cdon Adinuba disclosed that the armed men arrived in motorcycles and were forced to flee the scene due to the heavy shootout they were engaged in. He also confirmed that a soldier was killed during the shootout.Ā  However, the State Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu did not state whether any casualties were recorded. “Preliminary investigations revealed that the hoodlums started shooting sporadically while arriving at the Odoata Central School, but they were successfully repelled by police operatives and military personnel on ground.” He said.

Items recovered from the hoodlums include an AK-47 rifle, 30 rounds of ammunition, two magazines and four vehicles.
